This guide will help you understand the factors influencing the per minute animation rates in Malaysia and the types of services available based on your budget. Let’s dive in!

Before we begin, imagine the impact an animated video for your business developed by a professional video production company.

What influences per minute animation rates in Malaysia?

Several factors influence the per minute animation rates in Malaysia. It’s essential to consider these factors when planning an animated video production. By understanding these elements, you can make informed decisions about your animation project’s scope and find the best balance between quality and budget.

Animation Style: The complexity and type of animation style you choose will impact the cost. Basic 2D animations are generally more affordable than advanced 3D animations or complex motion graphics.

Duration: The length of the animation will directly affect the cost. Longer videos require more time and effort to produce, which can increase the overall expense.

Complexity of the Animation: The intricacy and level of detail in the animation can significantly influence the cost. Highly detailed and intricate animations may require more resources and time to create, leading to higher costs.

Number of Characters and Objects: The number of characters and objects that need to be animated can affect the cost. Each character and object adds to the workload, increasing the overall price.

Script and Storyboard: If you already have a well-defined script and storyboard, it can streamline the animation process and potentially reduce costs. If not, you might need to invest in scriptwriting and storyboarding services.

Voiceover and Sound Design: Hiring professional voice actors and investing in high-quality sound design can add to the cost, but they also enhance the overall quality of the animation.

Revisions: Some animation video production agencies include a specific number of revisions in their video production costs, while others may charge extra for additional revisions beyond a certain point. The number of revisions required can impact the final cost.

Deadline and Turnaround Time: Urgent projects with tight deadlines may incur additional charges due to the need for quicker turnaround and dedicated resources.

Experience and Skill of the Animators: The expertise and skill level of the animators involved in the project can influence the cost. Highly experienced animators may charge higher rates for their services.

Animation Studio or Vendor: The type of animation vendor you choose, such as a freelancer, boutique studio, or professional animation studio, will affect the pricing. Larger and more reputable studios may charge higher rates due to their track record and quality of work.

Licensing and Usage Rights: If you require exclusive usage rights or licensing for the animation, it can add to the overall cost.

How much does per minute animation cost vary per skill level of animator?

As mentioned earlier, the cost of animation can vary widely based on various factors. Different types of animation agencies or vendors offer their services at different price tiers. Here’s a general breakdown of the price ranges you can expect from different types of animation agencies or skill sets of animators:

1. Do-It-Yourself with Free Tools or Paid Online Software: RM 0.00 to RM 7,000 per annum subscription

While it is possible to create animations using free or low-cost online tools, there are some trade-offs to consider. Here are some points to keep in mind:

Limited Features: Free or cheap animation tools often have limited features compared to professional software. This can result in less control over the animation and its overall quality.

Template-based: Many free animation tools work with templates, which can make your animations look generic and less unique. It might be challenging to create something that stands out.

Time and Effort: Creating animations using these tools can be time-consuming, especially if you want to achieve a certain level of quality. DIY animations often require a learning curve and patience.

Licensing: Some free tools may have limitations on how you can use the animations or may require attribution, which can impact how you use them for commercial purposes.

For professional-level animations, it’s generally worth investing in specialized software or hiring skilled animators who can deliver a higher-quality product. However, for personal projects, experimentation, or quick and simple animations, these free tools can still serve a purpose.

Ultimately, the choice depends on the specific needs and goals of the project. If budget constraints are a significant factor, exploring free tools may be a viable option. However, for more complex and important projects, it’s best to consider the value that professional tools and expertise can bring to the table.

Some of the Do-It-Yourself Animation software platforms available online are:

  1. Animaker
  2. Powtoon
  3. Vyond
  4. Canva
  5. InVideo
  6. Kinemaster

Pro Tip:

Though these platforms are great to create animated videos on a shoestring budget, one must consider the cost involved e.g.:

  1. Time to learn the platform
  2. Annual Subscription Fees
  3. Overall quality of the final video

2. Freelancers – RM 1,500 to RM 5,000 per minute of animation

The rates of Freelancers vary quite a lot. The lower end of the spectrum often includes freelancers with limited experience and basic animation skills. While they may offer more affordable rates, the quality of their work may not match that of more experienced professionals.

On the other hand, at the higher end of the price range, one can find experts who can deliver custom, high-quality animated videos.

Freelancers, especially those working on their own, often handle multiple aspects of the animation production process, including storyboarding, animation, editing, and sometimes even voiceover work. It may also result in certain aspects of the video receiving more attention than others.

For example, a freelancer with strong animation skills may not have the same expertise in scriptwriting or voiceover talent, leading to potential limitations in those areas.

When working with freelancers or small outfits, it’s essential to communicate your expectations clearly and ensure that you understand what services are included in the price. If there are aspects of the project that they are not equipped to handle, you may need to find other professionals to fill in those gaps.

Overall, choosing the right animation professional or team depends on your project’s complexity, budget, and desired level of quality. It’s worth investing in experienced and skilled animators if your project demands a high level of creativity and polish.

3. Mid-Tier Animation Studio  – RM 3,500 to RM 5,500 per minute of animation

These studios typically offer a step up in quality and capabilities compared to individual freelancers. They are often composed of a small team of experienced professionals who can deliver custom animated videos with a higher level of expertise.

While mid-tier studios can provide better results, their small size might limit their capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously. This means that you might experience longer waiting times before they can start working on your video.

Another important aspect to consider is that some mid-tier studios may outsource certain specialized services they can’t provide in-house, such as scriptwriting, voiceover talent, or sound design. In such cases, they might either handle the outsourcing themselves (adding the cost to your project) or ask you to arrange those services independently. It’s crucial to be aware of this and factor in any additional investments required for a complete and polished final product.

When working with a mid-tier animation studio, communication is key. Be clear about your project’s requirements and deadlines and discuss any potential outsourcing arrangements upfront. This way, both parties can manage expectations and ensure a smooth production process.

In summary, mid-tier animation studios can offer a good balance of quality and affordability, making them a popular choice for many projects. Just be prepared for potential waiting times and additional expenses if certain services need to be outsourced separately.

4. Professional Level Animation Studio  – RM 4,000 to RM 6,500 per minute of animation

Professional-level animation companies offer a comprehensive and top-tier service for creating animated videos. These companies typically have a highly skilled team of experts, including scriptwriters, illustrators, animators, sound designers, and account managers. Their goal is to provide a fully customized and high-quality video tailored to the client’s specific needs and preferences.

Working with a professional-level animation company offers several advantages:

Expertise: The team members are experienced professionals in their respective fields, ensuring that each aspect of the animation is executed with precision and creativity.

Comprehensive Service: These companies can handle the entire production process, from scriptwriting to final animation, and even sound design. This means you can rely on them to take care of all aspects of the project, resulting in a cohesive and polished final product.

Client Involvement: Professional companies often involve clients in the decision-making process, seeking approvals and feedback at various stages of the project. This ensures that the final video aligns with the client’s vision and expectations.

Customization: Every detail of the video is tailored to meet the client’s specific requirements, creating a unique and personalized end product.

Quality Assurance: With a dedicated team and organized workflow, professional-level animation companies maintain a high standard of quality and adhere to project timelines.

Creative Experience: Collaborating with a professional team can be a pleasant and rewarding creative experience, as the client’s ideas and inputs are valued and integrated into the final video.

While working with a professional animation company may come at a higher cost compared to other options, the investment often translates into a superior outcome, a smoother production process, and a video that exceeds expectations.

Overall, professional-level animation companies are an excellent choice for projects that demand top-notch quality, creativity, and a fully customized approach. If you have the budget and want an outstanding animated video, choosing a professional-level animation company can be a wise decision.

5. Broadcast Level Animation Studio  – RM 40,000 to RM 80,000 per minute of animation

Broadcast-level animation companies are at the top tier of animation studios, and they excel in delivering premium-quality 2D, 3D, and motion graphics productions. Their work can be on par with what is seen in animated movie productions, making them an excellent choice for large-scale projects, long-form animations, series, or movies.

However, the high cost associated with their services makes them unsuitable for most small to medium-sized businesses or projects with limited budgets.

Broadcast-level animation companies are better suited for big multinational companies or organizations with significant financial resources and a need for top-tier animation quality with high media budget. For such companies, the investment in high-quality animation can be justified by the potential impact it can have on their brand image, marketing efforts, or entertainment projects.

In conclusion, while broadcast-level animation companies offer unparalleled quality and expertise, their high pricing makes them a niche choice primarily reserved for large-scale projects and well-established companies with substantial budgets.

Conclusion

A generic or low-quality video may not leave a positive impression on the target audience, potentially impacting the success of a marketing campaign. In contrast, investing in a fully customized, high-quality video from a marketing video agency can be a wiser choice as it can better resonate with the audience and generate higher engagement and conversion rates.

A well-crafted and tailored video can effectively communicate the message, highlight the unique selling points of a product or service, and create a memorable brand experience. It can contribute to building trust and credibility with the audience, which is essential for long-term success in any business.

While a top-notch video from a marketing video agency may come with a higher price tag, the potential return on investment in terms of increased revenue and business growth can make it a worthwhile expense.

In conclusion, investing in a high-quality, custom animation that aligns with the marketing goals can lead to a more successful and revenue-generating outcome, making it a worthwhile consideration for businesses seeking to stand out and make a positive impact.
